Florida Hurricane Tax Incentive

The 2018 Hurricane Season begins this week and the Florida Department of Revenue is providing a tax incentive to help you prepare. Between  June 1st to June 7th, certain hurricane supplies may be purchased tax-free. During this time, the items listed below will be exempt from sales tax.

The following is an overview of eligible supplies:

Selling for $10 or less:

  • Reusable ice packs

Selling for $20 or less:

  • Any portable self-powered light source
    •  Candles
    • Flashlights
    • Lanterns

Selling for $25 or less:

  • Any gas or diesel fuel containers

Selling for $30 or less:

  • Batteries (excluding auto/boat batteries)
    • AAA
    • AA
    • C
    • D
    • 6V
    • 9V
  • Coolers/Ice Chests (non-electrical)

Selling for $50 or less:

  • Bungee cords
  • Ground anchor systems
  • Radios (self-powered)
    • Two-way
    • Weather Band
  • Ratchet Straps
  • Tarps
  • Tie-down kits
  • Flexible waterproof sheeting

Selling for $750 or less:

  • Portable generators

 

Please note that water and non-perishable food are not on this list. Though these are not tax-free items, they should certainly be a priority when putting together a hurricane supply kit, along with any other items not listed, that are on the Bellissima Hurricane Planning Checklist.
